The Lord said to Moses, "Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning continually....Outside the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law in the tent of meeting, Aaron is to tend the lamps before the Lord from evening till morning, continually...The lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the Lord must be tended continually." Leviticus 24:1-4
Good Morning Everyone,
Today I was reading Leviticus 24. Yep, still in this amazing book! Something in the commentary struck me though: God pours out the oil of the Holy Spirit in our lives and also ‘trims the wicks’ so we burn brighter. I thought about candles in my home where the wick gets buried deep within the wax and I have to take a knife to dig around and find it.
Each day I get up to get the Holy Spirit oil; however, as I leave that time, the world's wax is also pouring in. Most times I don’t even notice! I realized that getting the oil is one thing, but allowing the Lord to use the Word to cutaway is a key requirement. The wick does not exit but it can get so buried by day-to-day life that the light of it becomes completely invisible.
In my own life when I did not allow God to cutaway, the wax buildup became so bad that most could not even recognize I was a believer. I could barely recognize myself. Yet, when God did deep surgery, low and behold a wick burned bright again! Yet, for me, this cannot be a one time event: I have to allow a daily cutting away of the world's wax so that the wick of my life burns bright and never goes out or gets smothered by what is not God.
Much love to all,
Cari
